Punya Foundation is a charity organisation. It was registered in South Australia in June 2010. The Foundation is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and holds Deductible Gift Recipient status with the Australian Taxation Office under PBI schedule 4.1.1. Similarly, the Foundation has a 501 (c) (3) status in the USA. Also, Punya Foundation is registered in Nepal, Canada and Ethiopia and holds not-for-profit registration.

The Foundation operates with a mission of “Justice through Education and Empowerment”. It has no inclination to any religion, culture, ethnicity, caste and gender. Target groups of the Foundation are those who need support to live a dignified life. The Foundation assists orphans, underprivileged and rendered vulnerable children with their education through provision of scholarships. It also focuses on welfare of women in fronts of social issues like mediation programs and empowerment through adult education and micro-finance projects. Punya Foundation is established to contribute to make differences in lives of rendered vulnerable, deprived, and victimised people across the globe. The Foundation also mobilises resources and extends relief programs during disasters and natural calamities. To assist people like migrants and refugees, the Foundation organises integration programs, cultural activities, job-oriented training programs and provides psychosocial support. Punya Foundation team comprises of committed and result oriented youths, experts, activists, professionals and think tanks.

Justice through Education and Empowerment

To realise its mission of “Justice through Education and Empowerment”, the Foundation works for social issues targeting vulnerable population.

  • Education and Scholarships: The Foundation promotes education through mentoring needy students, providing tuitions and through provision of scholarships to orphan, poor and vulnerable children.
  • Empowerment: The Foundation provides micro-finance projects to empower women victims of rape and sexual assault in developing countries.
  • Health and Relief: The Foundation engages in various health issues like provision of counselling to victims of trauma and sexual violence and through various health projects. It provides emergency support to victims of natural disasters and calamities.

In each registered country, the Foundation has a board of executives and or directors. They meet on a regular basis as mandated by the country specific constitution – to plan, appraise, monitor and evaluate projects and progress against the set objectives. The Foundation has country specific implementing partners in each country where projects are running. The implementing partners organise themselves as a committee and take responsibilities in project planning, analysis and implementation. A representative of the Foundation communicates with the implementing partner on a regular basis; who in turn updates to the board/executives. Implementing partners are required to submit progress reports and an annual report in accordance to the memorandum of understanding. The Foundation’s representative/s may attend major project events like scholarship distribution, monitoring and evaluation sessions with or without prior information to the implementing partner. This ground analysis is done for monitoring and evaluation and to exercise utmost transparency for appropriate utilisation of donors’ money. The Foundation is accountable and responsible to its donors. It provides regular update of running programs, circulates new letters and publishes annual reports.
